Bees and Rainbows.

Posted by Jason Varner on July 7, 2012 at 5:10 PM

Last nigh was a fun in a strange way. Had to gather and load 864 hives last night by myself. Started good till the rain came at 10pm till 12am when the thunder and lightning stop for me but was still all around the bogs I was on. But the rain did cool things off I had to put on a sweat shirt to keep warm with being wet and all. Finally dried out around 3am, at about 4am I was putting the last bees on to the last truck and netting it down. Keep in mind that it gets dark here at 10pm and light at 4:30am about 5:30am I finished with truck and was talking to the driver. We looked to the west and there was a double rainbow with the moon in about the 10 or 11 o-clock spot above it and the sun was shining through the clouds and was hitting the bogs and lake perfectly. I will post some of the pics I took but don't think both rainbows will show since the one was faint.

That was quite a nights work. I guess you light up the hives at night? Do the hives have supers on them? I like the beekeeping stories. Keep them coming.

Ya we use Bobcats with a mast and have amber lights wired to one of the triggers on the sticks. I only use light as needed and on clear nights I amost never use it. I have cat eye and see in the dark better than most people. Some times I feel like I can see by stars and moon better than the sun since it actually hurts my eyes most of the time, that is why I wear sunglasses even on cloudy days.

I even wear clip on sunglasses on top of my Transition lenses. We have had some moon lit nights so bright we pulled the blinds down. Maybe I should have been in my bees. I have so good pictures of my queens if you want to use the on your page let me know. Have a great day.
